Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has revealed that he is working behind the scenes to reconcile Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his successor William Ruto.

In a statement on Monday, Ngunyi said easing the tension in the relationship between Ruto and his predecessor will be good for the country.

"I am trying to reconcile Uhuru and Ruto from the back. I think it is good for the country. Especially after Uhuru speech in Abuja, where he came through as a Mediator and statesman," he said.

On Saturday, Uhuru urged President Tinubu to embrace the inclusivity of all parties for a better country.

"I speak to you as a brother and an elder statesman in leadership. The contest is now over, and the hard work of building a prosperous and unified Nigeria begins," he said.

He also urged him to transcend an election's tactical politics and become Nigeria's vision bearer.

"You will lose nothing and gain everything from reaching out across political, ethnic, and religious lines to those who may feel aggrieved by your victory in one way or another. Allow them to exhale and to be a part of your vision for a greater Nigeria," he said.

Uhuru was speaking at the 2023 Presidential Inauguration Lecture at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Nigeria at the event themed Deepening Democracy For Development.

He lauded the election contestants for expressing their political differences within the provided framework of constitutional order.

He then urged them to shun divisive politics and embrace finding strength in their diversities.

In April, Ngunyi urged Ruto to reconcile with Uhuru, saying their reunion will ensure the stability and safety of the country.

"Dear Ruto, to stabilize this country, make peace with Uhuru Kenyatta. Forgive him for betrayal. If the two of you unite, the country will be safe," he said.

The two fell out shortly after the 2017 polls at a time when Uhuru wanted to relinquish his power as President.

The crack in the political relationship worsened after the March 9, 2018 truce between Uhuru and opposition chief Raila Odinga, commonly known as 'Handshake'.

Ruto has since, on numerous occasions, since 2018, blamed Uhuru for the same, saying the handshake saw the deterioration of Kenya's economy.
