President William Ruto is in Busia to attend interdenominational prayers bringing together top clerics in the county.

The president's military helicopter touched down at Busia Polytechnic grounds at 10.30am.

The prayers held at Busia stadium have drawn a huge crowd in an event that is attended by the head of state in his first visit to the county since he was sworn in as Kenya's fifth president.

Besides the prayers, the county leadership is expected to present to the president critical projects Governor Paul Otuoma wants the national government to implement.

Some of the projects, the governor said on Thursday will be co-funded by both the national and county governments.

Among the projects is the dualling of the Busia-Kisumu road between the Busia One Stop Border Post and Korinda.

Also on the list of projects Otuoma is set to present to the head of state is the Sh7 billion Angololo dam project in Teso North, the opening of the Muluanda border point to connect Kenya and Uganda, the construction of a modern stadium in Nasewa as well as the construction of an industrial park at Nasewa.

The county is also seeking partnership with the national government in opening up the education sector in a bid to boost academic performance at the border county.

Busia, going by representation in the national assembly and senate is an Azimio zone but the president may capitalize on his visit to spring up his support in the county.

Otuoma on Thursday called on residents to turn up in large numbers to receive the president.

He said President Ruto is the president for all Kenyans including those who voted for Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
