Six dead, 8 injured after matatu overturned in Sachangwan

Six people died and eight others were seriously injured after a matatu they were travelling from Eldoret to Nairobi overturned in Sachangwan area on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway. 

This is after the driver lost control of the public service vehicle. Police and witnesses said the victims included four men and one woman.

The accident happened Monday morning May 15, 2023

Molo police commander Mwenda Muthamia said eight were seriously injured.

"The 14-seater matatu belonging to the Eldoret Shuttle Sacco veered off the Highway and landed in a ditch. We lost five people on the spot," said Muthamia.

One succumbed while in hospital.

Survivors are receiving treatment at the Molo Hospital while the bodies of the deceased are at the hospital mortuary. 

The vehicle was taken to Molo police station.

Muthamia said they are investigating the incident.

The area is regarded as a black spot and authorities have been taking measures to address the menace.

This adds to the number of victims so far who have died in accidents in the country in the past months.
