DP Gachagua donates relief food to Nyandarua residents

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday morning presented relief support to residents of Ndiara village in Wanjohi, Nyandarua County, who were displaced from their homes by heavy rains and flash floods.

Gachagua donated to the over 1,000 victims assorted items including bags of rice, maize, beans and maize flour to the families.

He also donated other humanitarian relief items such as blankets and iron sheets to assist the affected reconstruct their houses.

In addition, he presented them with planting seeds.

"We are reaching out to this community because of the destruction and humanitarian crisis that occured as a result of the heavy rains. We must come to your rescue because it is our commitment," said Gachagua.

He was accompanied by local leaders led by Governor Kiarie Badilisha, Woman Rep.

Faith Gitau, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, Ministry of Lands Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS)  Kimani Ngunjiri.

Others were MPs Njuguna Kiaraho (Ol Kalou) and Michael Muchira (Ol Jororok) together with members of the Nyandarua county assembly and National Government Administration Officers.

Gachagua reiterated that President William Ruto-led administration has given agriculture priority as it is one of the five pillars of its economic recovery plan.

The residents incurred huge losses last week after heavy rains pounded the area.

The rains, which were accompanied by hailstones, damaged their crops, and houses and killed livestock in some homesteads.

One person also died after being carried by the flooding waters. 

Gachagua donated Sh300,000 to the family to assist in burial preparations.
