Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned the opposition that the government will not allow them to destroy property in Nairobi.

Speaking on Friday, the DP assured Kenyans that the country is safe and secure.

"The issue of destroying property in the streets of Nairobi and in the estates is not possible," Gachagua said.

The deputy president, however, said Azimio can go back to their protests and go home at the end of the day.

"The country is safe and those who want to return to the streets are invited to do so, wear sufurias on their heads, shout from rooftops, and quietly go home to join their families and watch what they were doing on television."

His remarks come ahead of Raila Odinga's expected return to the country on Friday.

The former Prime Minister is expected to hold a people's baraza at the Kamukunji grounds in Kibra.

The opposition leader's coalition had asked supporters to throng the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, to welcome him from the United Arab Emirates.

Raila is expected to arrive at the JKIA on Friday at 2.30 pm from Dubai.

On Wednesday, National Assembly  Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi asked elected leaders in the Azimio coalition to go to JKIA to receive Raila.

“As a party, we are gearing to accord him a grand welcome on arrival at the JKIA, then join him in a grand procession to the people’s Baraza at the Kamkunji Grounds, Kibra Constituency, on the same day. The Rt Hon Odinga will address the nation at the said meeting,” the Ugunja town MP said.
