The exhumation of the body of slain interior designer Jeff Mwathi is currently underway at his parents' home in Likia, Nakuru County.

Police ordered for the exhumation to fill gaps surrounding his controversial death at an apartment in Kasarani, Nairobi on February 22.

Police sought the exhumation order after preliminary forensic investigations ruled out suicide as earlier claimed.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are conducting the exhumation exercise.

The autopsy will be conducted by Government pathologist Johansen Oduor in a tent that has been set up by the grave site.

Other than establishing the cause of death through the postmortem, detectives also want to establish whether Jeff's body could have gone through the grills of the bedroom window of a house he is alleged to have jumped from to his death.

Inspector General of police Japhet Koome last Sunday that police are doing thorough investigations to ensure justice in the case.

“We will have that body exhumed look at dimensions on where he is said to have passed at the window to drop to the ground floor. We are moving to court to seek an order for the exhumation,” Koome said.

“Anyone found culpable will be held accountable,” he added while speaking to the press at his office.

Detectives working on the case have discounted the suicide theory and said they believe Jeff was murdered before his body was thrown down.

Mugithi musician Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo’s, in whose house the 23-year old interior designer is said to have been last on the day of his death is considered a person of interest.

Detectives visited his house for reconstruction and forensic analysis and established signs of a struggle inside the house.

They also reviewed CCTV footages that captured the deceased's last moments.

The investigators, in ruling out suicide, believe that Jeff was murdered before he was thrown off to cover up and make it look like suicide.

DJ Fatxo has denied involvement in the death and said he will cooperate with investigators in the case.

He told the Media on March 12 that he was the one who reported to the police about Jeff's disappearance on the morning he died.

Fatxo said in his statement that he was concerned after returning to the house several hours later and finding out that Jeff was missing.
