A police officer who was injured during the Azimio demos in Kisumu on Thursday has died.

A police report says officer Ben Oduor of Keroka Police Station in Nyamira was on duty during the mass protests and got injured while at Jamia Supermarket area.

The officer accompanied by others were overwhelmed by the charging rioters and in the process sustained injuries.

He was rushed for treatment at Aga Khan Hospital and admitted in ICU where he succumbed on Thursday night.

The body is currently lying at the hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.

The officers were overwhelmed when a group of youth broke into the supermarket, vandalised and stole goods.

Proprietor Hussein Hassan condemned the incident saying he lost goods worth millions of shillings.

He wondered why the protesters targeted his business.

"What have I done to warrant such destruction? What problem do the people have with me," he posed.

"I have a family and people taking care of and I don't know where to start."
