Ruto takes state investment agenda to Germany

The President is on a four-day trip to Europe

President William Ruto has invited German businessmen to invest in Kenya’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

The President who is on a four-day trip to Europe said the two states had agreed on the approaches to bringing more German and international companies to Kenya.

"Had a working breakfast with Dr Markus Jerger, the Chairman of Der Mittelstand-German Association of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (BVMW), Potsdamer Platz, Berlin," Ruto said.

The Head of State later held talks with the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA) led by its Chairman Michael Schumann.

"We agreed on the approaches to bringing more German and international companies to Kenya," Ruto said.

President Ruto left the country on Sunday for a four-day tour to Europe.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed had revealed that the President will be on a working tour in Belgium and Germany with trade talks being the main agenda.

“Renewable energy, green industrialisation and trade will be Ruto’s agenda in his foreign visit,” Hussein announced.

“Ruto will deliver a keynote address at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, outlining the challenges of energy security amidst the worsening climate crisis and the push for renewable energy investments in Kenya and Africa."

During his visit to Berlin, Ruto will also explore a partnership with Germany on the youth agenda, specifically in vocational education and training.

In Belgium, President Ruto will look at key areas of partnership that will enhance food security and economic stability in the country.

He will meet Belgium's President Alexander De Croo and the Prime Minister of Belgium.

"They will meet and discuss mutual areas of interest including, health, addressing Kenya's food security and drought response, climate action, trade and investment,” Hussein said.

In addition to that, President Ruto will have more meetings with other European Union leaders.

“The President will engage with the leadership of the European Union, including, Charles Michel, President of the European Union Council and HE Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission,” reads the statement.

Revealing the topic of discussion during his meeting with EU leaders, the State House Spokesperson said Ruto will reinforce Kenya's commitment to the Kenya-EU Strategic Dialogue.

"The President will also discuss ways to deepen the partnership between Kenya and the European Union, under the three key pillars of Peace, Security and Stability; Sustainable and Inclusive Development; and, Economy, Trade and Investment," Hussein said.

Ruto's working tour of Europe comes at a time when the opposition is set to hold anti-government protests on Monday and Thursday.
