Azimio la Umoja spokesperson Makau Mutua now says that Kenya is a strange country.

This comes after several form county governors were shortlisted for interviews to deputise Cabinet Secretaries, as Chief Administrative Secretaries.

He questioned why individuals who have previously held more senior positions in government would apply for such small jobs.

Makau said because of this, Kenya is indeed a strange country.

"Why are very senior members of the society who’ve served as governors and ministers like Kidero Evans and Prof Kibwana applying for “office messenger” jobs? Kenya is a very strange country. Cry, my beloved country!" he said on Wednesday.

His reaction comes after at least eight former governors were shortlisted for the jobs.

The Public Service Commission on Tuesday released a list of 224 members from over 5,000 applications received.

On Thursday, however, the list was amended to accommodate 16 additional names, which pushed the total to 240.

Some of those listed include close allies of president William Ruto. Others are election losers.

The appointments will be made by President William Ruto, after the PSC interviews.

The interviews will begin on March 1.

Some of those who backed his opponent Raila Odinga in the August 2022 general election but have since sworn allegiance to Ruto, are also on the list.
