It was all hugs and laughter when Governor Kawira Mwangaza returned to the Meru County Assembly premises on Monday for a meeting with MCAs, almost two months after surviving an impeachment.

In a video shared online, as soon as the governor stepped out of her car, a bevy of MCAs was on call to receive her at the entrance of the assembly.

They hugged and giggled as others clapped, painting a picture of renewed friendship different from the scenes on October 19, 2022, when the ward reps walked out on her upon her arrival in the chamber.

"Sasa mambo imeisha hii (It's all over now)," a voice was heard saying.

After the meeting whose agenda was not immediately established by press time, the group emerged from the chamber singing 'yote yawezekana kwa imani' (With faith, all is possible).

Kawira was on December 14 impeached by 67 of the 69 MCAs that were present in the Meru County Assembly.

They accused her of committing at least one constitutional violation on each of the 64 days she had been in power, allegations Kawira denied saying she was a victim of blackmail.

Kawira was on December 30 saved from impeachment when the Senate special committee formed to probe her dismissed all the accusations.

Several conciliatory meetings between her and the MCAs under the facilitation of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have been held since then.
