United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Nairobi MCAs have picked another war with Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Led by its leadership at the County Assembly, the MCAs pointed a finger at Sakaja claiming he is forcing a handshake between Opposition leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.

This is after a video of Sakaja emerged over the weekend, where he is heard saying he was not apologetic for choosing to work with the former prime minister.

"I have no apologies for working with Raila Odinga. And I have no apologies for working with William Ruto,” he said.

In the same video, the Governor is heard saying that he will be the one to facilitate a handshake between Raila and Ruto when the day comes.

“In fact, on the day that Raila and Ruto will have a sit-down, I am the one who will facilitate that," Sakaja said.

Not sitting well with the MCAs, Minority leader Antony Kiragu accused Sakaja of undermining the decision of President Ruto, who has publicly said there was no room for a handshake between him and Raila.

“We have heard the Governor saying he will facilitate a handshake between the President and Raila, yet he clearly knows Ruto’s stand on the issue,” he said.

Kiragu claimed that Sakaja was more concerned with working with the opposition than respecting the President’s wishes who is also the UDA Party leader.

Since he was sworn in as President, Ruto ruled out the possibility of engaging in a political handshake with his rival, Raila.

Ruto made it clear that his intention is to work with his competitors in their official capacity as the opposition in a bid to buttress his administration to ensure he runs a government that operates under checks and balances.

Going further, the UDA MCAs also accused the Governor of being biased against his own Party, UDA.

This is not the first time the MCAs have accused the Governor of “leaning” and consulting the Azimio la Umoja coalition more than the Kenya kwanza side.

Following Sakaja’s appointment of the cabinet and chief officers, UDA Nairobi MCAs said the governor was consulting Azimio MCAs, forgetting that he was a UDA governor.

However, Sakaja said that he had to work with all MCAs without favouring any side of the house as he was elected to serve all Nairobi residents and not only the UDA supporters.

He even went ahead and revealed that he had consulted President Ruto before he made any appointments at the county.

Sakaja said that it is Ruto who advised him and gave him a green light for the appointments.

“President Ruto who is also my party leader understands Nairobi and the situation. I told the President that despite being a UDA governor, the Azimio coalition occupies the majority in the Nairobi County Assembly and that there is no way my administration could deliver without working with them,” he added.

As a result, The Minority Leader challenged the Sakaja to declare his stand saying despite being elected on a UDA ticket, he has resorted to sidelining members aligned with the party instead favouring the rival Azimio wing.

“I want to challenge the Governor not to put on a yellow t-shirt during the day and a blue one at night. He needs to come out and declare his stand,” Kiragu added
