Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has backed President William Ruto's call for a commission of inquiry into the 2022 August polls.

On Saturday, Mwangangi said it was in order for a commission to be established to probe the alleged plot to subvert the will of Kenyans.

"The President has said Kenyans need to know what transpired during the last general elections,” he said.

Mwangangi spoke while addressing mourners at Mua ward in Machakos.

Mwangangi said since Ruto and other leaders support the inquiry, there will be no resistance to it.

He urged politicians to stop rising political temperatures and instead focus on serving residents.

"You can distribute Unga day and night, but it's also healthy to allow other leaders to serve the electorate without interference,” Mwangangi said.

He told off those criticizing Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s chief officers’ nominees who were sworn into their respective offices a week ago.

"If the requirement by the law that at least 30 per cent of appointments must accommodate residents from other counties, then you should petition Parliament and have the law changed and the governor will comply," Mwangangi said.

Mwangangi said Machakos was a cosmopolitan county which needed to accommodate other communities in the distribution of available job opportunities.

Speaking during the swearing-in event, the governor had said the appointments were within the Constitutional provisions that demand 30 per cent slots be given to non-locals of a particular county.

Machakos chief of staff Lawrence Ngovi told Ndeti’s critics to stop engaging in premature political campaigns and instead focus on serving the electorate.

Ngovi said such leaders should deliver to the electorate and patiently wait for 2027 for campaigns.

He said some of the leaders have been engaging in 2027 politics relentlessly at the expense of development.

Mwangangi said there was a need for leaders to unite and execute development.

“Kenyans are no longer interested in mere rhetoric but want development projects to improve their living standards. It is high time leaders respected wananchi and focused on work instead of politics, distribute your unga peacefully," Mwangangi said.

“Some leaders have ignored issues residents want to be addressed and shifted focus on 2027 politics. I urge them to channel this energy supporting the governor.”
