Hard work, prayers helped me score A plain – Machakos girl

Agnes Mueni is among the 271 female students who scored As in the just announced 2022 KCSE examinations.

Mueni who sat at the examinations at St. Francis Misyani Girls’ High School scored an A plain emerging top.

She says though she didn’t expect to emerge among the best students in the examinations nationally, she had hopes of registering good results.

While celebrating her results at the school located in Kangundo, Machakos on Saturday, Mueni said her success wasn’t a walk in the park, but hard work and prayers.

“I have scored A plain of 81 points. I thank God because He has given me such a good grade,” Mueni said.

“I didn’t expect, but I had hopes that I would score good results. I thank teachers and my parents for being my greatest role models, I can’t see any other role models apart from them.” 

Mueni said she wishes to join the University of Nairobi and pursue Medicine. She aspires to be a Neurosurgeon.

The girl said after her studies, she would want to establish a children’s home since she feels that every child needs to get the opportunity to go to school and have a good life.

“God willing, I hope to later get a scholarship to continue with my studies. I advise students in high school to put God first in everything that they do because the Bible says that He is our Father and can never fail us,”  she said.

“Listen to your teachers, they are never wrong. Do what they tell you and you will succeed. Also, my dad tells me that success isn’t a walk in the park. So, success doesn’t come anyhow, you need to work hard, and sacrifice.” 

The school’s PTA chairman William Sila said the secrete behind the school’s sterling performance was the belief in focus, unity and discipline.

“We work together with teachers, parents, board of management and sponsors because we know that the girls brought to this school have been given to us by God,” Sila said.

Sila said the school helps mould girls to be holistic in life to face the world.

The school has a 7.48 mean score (C+).

He said out of the 141 students who sat the 2022 KCSE in the school, 104 had qualified for university.

Machakos School managed a B minus mean grade with 300 direct entries.

The school registered one A plain, 20 A minuses, 58 B pluses, 77 Bs, 77 B minuses, 67 C pluses, 42 C plains, 19 C minuses, 9 D pluses and 2 Ds.

Makueni Girls’ Secondary School had one A plain, Machakos Girls 5A minuses, 12 B pluses, 29 B plain, 58 B minus, 57 C plus, 61 C plain, 24 C minus, and 8 D plus with a C plus mean grade.

Mumbuni Girls principal Caren Karuntimi said they were as a school proud of one of their student, Faith Mwikali, who scored a straight A in the examinations.

Karuntimi said it was their first time as a school to register a straight A.

“This has broken the school’s record, and we are happy. This itself inspires other learners that they can score As,” she said.

She said the girl joined the school in form one with 371 marks.

Karuntimi said by press time, 50 of the girls had qualified for the university.
