CJ Martha Koome not hospitalised at KNH – Judiciary

The Judiciary has dismissed as false reports doing rounds on a section of the media that Chief Justice Martha Koome has been hospitalised.

The story was carried by an online publication site which claimed that the CJ was taken ill to Kenyatta National Hospital for dialysis. 

"Martha Koome was taken ill on Tuesday evening. She was rushed to the KNH, where she is admitted in the private wing. Doctors haven’t talked yet," the story claimed.

But in a post on Twitter, the Judiciary flagged the story as fake.  

This is not the first time the CJ has been a target of fake news in the recent past.

On September 25 last year, a fake but verified Twitter account with Koome's profile photo claimed that she had praised the prayers that were held at State House.

The tweet suggested that the Judiciary should emulate the act.

"Thank you William Ruto for making State House a house of prayer. A good example for Kenya Judiciary. Kenya is a country of God," the fake tweet read. 

Later on November 11, 2022, another false information went up in a tweet claiming that the CJ and IG Japheth Koome are relatives.

The tweet by @kasyoki_buddy claimed Koome was going to administer her husband’s oath.

Speaking shortly after his swearing-in on Friday, November 11, 2022, IG Koome clarified that he is not related to the CJ.

"Once in a while, I look at social media when I want to follow on gossip going on. Last night there was a talk on social media that Koome will be sworn in by Koome… Interesting discussion...I have no blood relationship with the CJ. It's only that she is married to one Koome Kiragu and I am Koome Japhet," he said.

In her speech, CJ Koome thanked the new IG for the clarification.
