Members of Elimu Bora have raised concerns over the state of the education system in Kenya.
Addressing the press on Tuesday at the Kenya Human Rights Commission offices, the group said there was a rush in the implementation of the CBC curriculum.
Describing the move as a case of putting the horse before the cart, the lobby said the move to recruit new teachers is too little too late as the calendar resumes on January 23.
TSC in December 2022 declared that 30,000 teachers will be recruited in the new year with only 8000 of them being placed under permanent pensionable employment.
"Is there enough time to train the 30,000 on the new education system, bearing in mind that most of the currently engaged teachers do not fully understand and embrace the new system? " the group posed.
The lobby said the move to recruit 22,000 teachers as interns is a bad labour practice.
"With only 13 days to go for JSS to start, a lot remains to be done," the group said.
Elimu Bora also raised concern about the increased insecurity of learners in school which they said has led to many appalling and senseless deaths of students.
The lobby demanded that the government steps up to give Kenyans quality, inclusive, affordable and lifelong education.
"The government must protect, respect and fulfil the right to education," the lobby said.
The lobby also urged the Ministry of Education to ensure effective and widespread consultation with relevant players in the education sector and public participation when making decisions.
Elimu Bora members urged TSC to ensure the timely recruitment of teachers and training and deployment of qualified teachers.
