Suspect on the run after stabbing a police officer in a bar in Migori

Police are hunting down a suspect over the stabbing of a policeman in a bar in Kuria West, Migori County.

The incident happened at a local entertainment joint on December 1, 2023  at night, Kuria West Sub-County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said.

 

The affected officer who is the officer-in-charge of Masaba Police Post had apparently made his way to Apple Bar in Masaba Centre after receiving word from concerned revelers that the suspect was publicly brandishing a machete and a knife inside the pub.

On arrival, he found the suspect still holding his weapons.

As the officer attempted to disarm the man, the suspect reportedly let go of his machete, reached for his knife and stabbed the policeman in his right upper thigh before disappearing into the darkness.

Other revelers said the suspect had had many drinks there hence his behavior and had feared he would have harmed them.

Kimaiyo said the injured officer was rushed to Masaba Medical Centre and was discharged after treatment.

The police boss said the suspect is known and efforts to get him are ongoing. “He a known wanted suspect for now and he knows it. Let him surrender,” he said.
