Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has defended his Suna East counterpart Junet Mohamed over claims he was among those who mismanaged Azimio agents' funds.
Babu insisted the Suna East MP was just a scapegoat.
He argued that Junet would have benefited more from a Raila Odinga presidency, compared to what he could have gotten from the money meant for agents.
"People are fighting Junet for no reason. Do you think the money meant for agents was commensurate to what Junet would have been in Baba's government? Do you think Junet could have forgone his dream in Baba's government? He could have probably made more money than that meant for agents.
"But somebody must always carry the cross and that is why it was put on Junet's back," he said.
The Embakasi East legislator went on to blame retired President Uhuru Kenyatta for Raila's loss.
He questioned that after having worked with William Ruto since 2002 when he first vied for the presidency and having been to the International Criminal Court together, what could have made the two end their friendship?
"Mimi story ya Uhuru when it comes to this election sitaki hata kusikia. (I don't want to hear about Uhuru when it comes to this election). Let him have his relationship with Baba (Raila)," Babu said.
"Why would Uhuru and Ruto fight if in 2002 Ruto stood with Uhuru against all odds? In 2013 and in 2017, Ruto stood with Uhuru and they also went to ICC together. What is it that went wrong between the two? Nothing."
According to Saitabao Kanchory, who was Raila's chief agent, no money meant for the agents was misused.
He said all the money came from a central point and went directly to the agents' accounts.
"As far as I know, there is no one who took even a coin meant for agents because the way the system was designed, every shilling was coming from a central place, which I do not know where it was and going directly to accounts of designated agents."
