Woes started in Azimio's camp when the Supreme Court declared the Building Bridges Initiative unconstitutional.

This is according to Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino.

"We lost the election after we lost BBI. All these others were just additional information of how and why Azimio lost," he said on Sunday.

The MP spoke during an interview on NTV in a feature dubbed 'Why Raila lost.'

In March, the Supreme Court declared BBI illegal, stopping retired president Uhuru Kenyatta's bid to make sweeping constitutional changes through the document.

Going down memory lane, the legislator said BBI was a good document but designed to fail.

William Ruto who was the then deputy president was seen as the de facto leader of the anti-BBI brigade.

Ruto said Kenyans should be allowed to make independent choices on the fate of the document.

The BBI led to politicians mostly from the Jubilee Party choosing to either support Ruto or Uhuru.

"All political parties supported BBI and even signed the document but the moment BBI failed, a mass exodus was witnessed, especially from Azimio," Babu said.

He said former Azimio supporters National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi left at that time.
