Wajir North Member of Parliament Ibrahim Abdi Saney has dismissed claims that he caused chaos at the tallying centre during the just concluded General Election forcing the returning officer not to announce the results.

During the hearing of a petition against his election before Milimani High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi, the lawmaker told the trial judge he did not incite his supporters but instead told the to remain calm even as the tallying was going on.

The election petition was filed by his closet rival Ibrahim Ahmed.

Saney who successfully bounced back to politics after losing his seat to the petitioner in the 2017 general election told the court that he addressed his grievances through the media so that the IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati would intervene.

Saney a seasoned politician also told the court that it was then the returning who told his chief agent that he had won the seat but because of the violence that erupted at the tally centre, he was advised to pick up his certificate at the Bomas of Kenya which was seen as a safer place.

"My competitor cause chaos with his supporters when it had just remained only a few polling stations, and because of the violence, we were all evacuated," Said Saney.

Saney told the court he did not incite anyone at the tallying centre and what he heard was that mere propaganda.

Ibrahim now wants the court to uphold his election and dismiss the petition saying the election was free and fair.

"Despite minor anomalies in some few polling stations, the process was free and fair because I personally visited various polling stations and things were very much ok," Said Saney.

In the petition, the immediate member of Parliament Ibrahim Ahmed who got 6,121 votes is challenging the incumbent Ibrahim Saney who garnered 6,502.
