President William Ruto has said the country's national holidays will now be themed.

He spoke during the launch of virtual desktops at Kabete National Polytechnic on Tuesday.

"I made the decision, Kenya national holidays are now going to be themed going forward and we started at the right place. At innovation and technology," he said.

He said Kenya must be technologically ready to take part in the US$680 billion enterprise, adding that the December 12, celebrations will be themed 'Innovation Jamhuri Day'.

"Instead of inviting the usual people who we invite, I have decided to invite our technology leaders worldwide from Facebook and from Google so that we can share the opportunities that exist in the world that is increasingly becoming digitalised," he added.

The matter was discussed in the fourth cabinet seating.

"In an effort to compliment the rotation of the host county for national days, all national celebrations will exhibit a sectorial theme," the Cabinet said on Thursday.

This is aimed at highlighting the strides made in achieving national aspirations during such celebrations.

This will particularly apply to the state ceremonies that mark the solemn and sacred national days including Madaraka Day, Mashujaa Day, and Jamhuri Day.

"In that regard, and in recognition of the pioneering innovations by our youth that continue to elevate our place of pride within the community of nations, this year’s Jamhuri Day will be marked through ICT-themed national celebrations."

The cabinet reiterated that the celebrations will also feature participation by continental and global technology giants and thought leaders.
