COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said that President William  Ruto might take power again in 2027.

Speaking on Saturday, Atwoli defended his meeting with Ruto, saying he met him to discuss the welfare of workers.

"Ruto will still be the president after five years. If he managed to take from us and we were with Uhuru Kenyatta what makes you think in 2027 he won't take from us?" he posed.

He said that Kenya is a democratic country and, therefore, we must accept the outcome of the elections.

Atwoli added that he represents Africa and that it is his call to be involved in the government.

"When I go for meetings outside Kenya and I'm asked how Ruto's administration is doing, I will not say that I was in opposition, I must say the progress of the country because that is my government," he said.

Atwoli was in Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja camp in the run-up to the August 9 general election.

He campaigned fiercely against Ruto's presidency, at one point going on record stating that Ruto will never succeed former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Atwoli was among other Luyha community leaders that met Ruto at State House Thursday.

Others who accompanied him are Prime cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale, former Kakamega gubernatorial candidate Cleophas Malala and Rashid Echesa, among others.
