Security beefed up in Nakuru ahead of festive season

County commander says police have increased patrols both day and night

Nakuru county commander Peter Mwanzo has said police are on high alert as the festive season begins.

The meeting brought together senior security officials and the Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

“We held this meeting that brought together all the police commanders within Nakuru county for the purpose of planning on issues regarding security for the upcoming festivities and exams,” Mwanzo said.

“The governor joined us by virtue of being the chairperson of the county policing authority where we discussed how the she can escalate our needs as police in  the county.”

The county commander further revealed that the police have increased patrols both day and night as well as intelligence led surveillance that has given them a broader view of criminal activities.

Mwanzo also noted several people have been arrested, however, some challenges have severed their cases due to witnesses’ failure to appear in court.

Kihika reiterated the need for adequate security for any development to take place.

The governor also lauded the police for restoring peace especially in the Mawanga area which had experienced cases of women being killed, more than 3 were burnt to death.

“We are partnering with our officers because nothing is possible without security. Those who want to invest or visit this county must feel that their security taken care of,” Kihika said.

“We thank the police for doing an incredible job in curbing crime and dismantling the criminal gangs in Nakuru. We pledge to support the police where necessary to secure our people."

Kihika further noted that no politician will be sympathetic to criminals and they will work together ro ensure criminal groups are neutralised.

Cases of mugging by criminals in Nakuru city and its environs have gone down tremendously in the last few weeks.

This has been attributed to cooperation between security agencies and residents who have continued to share information with the police.

Mugging and daylight robberies had escalated in some areas with Kivumbini in Nakuru Town most affected.
