Charlene Ruto, daughter of President William Ruto has called on county leaders to lead from the front in putting in place measures to mitigate climate change.

Speaking when she paid a courtesy visit to the County Assembly, Charlene noted that climate change was a concern that required immediate attention.

Charlene who participated in a tree planting exercise in the Assembly echoed the President’s Mashujaa Day speech that every Kenyan should grow 300 trees.

In his speech, the president said that reforestation in the presidential program will be undertaken by youth and women, civil society, community, and religious organizations.

Charlene who has been making tours to different counties also noted that the counties harboured huge investment potential adding that she would take initiatives to ensure that the counties are linked with investors both at the local and in the international arena.

On his part, Speaker Cosmas Korir asked for a partnership between national and county governments particularly in the renovation of the Bomet Airstrip.

The Speaker said the airstrip was a key facility that can open up the region to external investors and markets.

On climate change, the Speaker emphasized on the need for leaders to carry out initiatives such as the use of clean energy in order to conserve the environment.

On the youth agenda, Charlene asked for partnerships by different stakeholders to address issues affecting youth such as unemployment. Present during her tour to the Assembly were the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and members of the public.
