Lands CS to open affordable housing conference

Lands and Housing CS Zakariah Njeru is on Wednesday expected to officiate the launch of the second affordable housing conference.

The theme of the event is unleashing affordable housing potential to drive economic growth.

The inaugural summit was held last year.

Convened by the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC) and the housing department, the event gives an opportunity to the housing sector stakeholders to network.

The conference brings together project developers, investors, pension funds, insurance companies, SACCOs and development partners among others.

Financiers, consultancy firms and policymakers are also part of the event.

The Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to realizing the affordable housing programme as captured in its manifesto.

President William Ruto has maintained his government will streamline the programme to ensure home ownership is a reality for low-income earners.

Ruto has announced that his government will set up 200,000 affordable units yearly.

He has already launched the construction of units in parts of Nairobi and Rongai.

KMRC chief executive officer Johnstone Oltetia said they have disbursed up to Sh7 billion in home loans since 2020 when they launched the program.
