Police in Uasin Gishu have shot and wounded a machete-wielding thug who attacked an officer after he was cornered during a robbery incident.
The suspect currently admitted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital was in a group of others who had broken into a shop in Soy.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the officer opened fire, immobilising the suspect who attacked him as he fled the scene.
“At around 2 am on Sunday, officers on patrol were alerted that Sabugo stores had been broken into by robbers who were about to steal gas cylinders,” DCI said on Twitter.
A resident called the police.
Upon arrival, the officers ordered the robbers who had locked themselves in the shop to come out of the building.
The robbers however defied the orders prompting the officers to push the door to open it.
In the ensuing melee, two of the suspects attacked the police with machetes prompting one of the officers to open fire at the thugs, immobilising one of them.
About five robbers escaped.
