Kisumu activists want insecurity issues addressed

Their outcry comes a day after a businessman was on Thursday shot in Tiengre

A local civil society organization in Kisumu has given the police seven days to tackle insecurity issues within the lakeside city.

Members from the Transform Empowerment Action Initiative (TEAM) said cases of insecurity were getting out of land.

Their outcry comes a day after a businessman was on Thursday shot in Tiengre inside his shop by three suspects on a motorcycle.

A first responder was also shot on the leg and injured

Led by Maureen Kemunto, they said several people are nursing injuries, others lying unconsciously is various hospitals after being brutally beaten and attacked by thugs.

“It’s sad that in some cases, the victims are left helpless with deep cuts wounds and shops broken into,” she said.

“The police should tell us what is going on.”

Okello Opidi said in terms of security indicators, they are at Orange yet the issues are not being addressed. 

"We are calling upon the county government and security apparatus within the county to take charge to ensure there is protection for all including patrols in estate," Opidi said.

The urged the county government to address the issues of streets lights.

Mariam Abdala urged the county and national government to assure residents of their safety during working hours. 

She said recently the county banned washing of cars in some areas within the CBD and wondered where such youths will go to.

“There should always be consultation amongst various and relevant stakeholders on such matters before final decisions are made,” Abdala said.
