• "A fortnight ago I lost the left side mirror of my car while stuck in traffic along Valley Road. Its was removed forcefully by a thug," Cherargei said.
• "Nairobi is now a crime city and a gangs haven. The security lapse across the nation must be addressed immediately by a reorganisation of the security sector," he said.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei said he is also a victim of the rising crime rates in Nairobi.
On Tuesday, he explained how being stuck in traffic cost him the side mirror of his vehicle.
"A fortnight ago I lost the left side mirror of my car while stuck in traffic along Valley Road. Its was removed forcefully by a thug," Cherargei said.
The Kenya Kwanza senator has called upon the government to move with speed and address the severe security lapse not only in Nairobi but across the country.
"Nairobi is now a crime city and a gangs haven. The security lapse across the nation must be addressed immediately by a reorganisation of the security sector," Cherargei said.
Interior Cabinet secretary Kithure Kindiki has put on notice criminal gangs terrorising Nairobi City residents saying the government will crash them.
In a powerful message to the small armed groups that have been mugging city dwellers, the new Interior CS left no doubt of the government's power.
Kindiki confirmed that there is a small group of criminals, armed with knives and other light weapons who are terrorising city residents as well as a few other urban centres.
“Those boys who have dared the government, we have also heard you and we are coming effective immediately,” Kindiki said.
Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome also warned criminals that their days are numbered as he begun work as the highest-ranking officer of the Kenya Police Service.
He said criminals will no longer intimidate or disrupt the lives of Kenyans as they go about their businesses.
Koome and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja agreed to form a policing authority to end the insecurity issues in the county.
“The governor will set up the Nairobi County Policing Authority as soon as possible,” he said.
The authority, Koome said, is anchored in law, including in the National Police Service Act.
The act says the county governor chairs the authority.
