ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has advised Maa leaders who have filed election petitions to drop them.

Sapit said in order to boost cohesion and integration, there is a need for politicians in Narok and Kajiado counties to withdraw their cases in court.

He made the remarks at Africa Hope Centre in Narok town on Thursday after a meeting of elders and religious.

In attendance were Maasai Council of Elders chairman Kelena Ole Nchoe, Narok pastors led by their chairman Peter Nakola and other leaders.

He urged Narok gubernatorial candidate Moitalel ole Kenta and former governor Samuel Tunai to withdraw the cases they filed.

Kenta contested against Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu while Tunai challenged Senator Ledama ole Kina.

“By doing so, it gives a chance to the leaders to seek an alternative dispute resolution formula that will be satisfactory to all the parties involved. The conversations were at the initial stages to unite all the leaders who participated in the polls,” Sapit said.

The clergy said every time there is an election, some people are left wounded and it takes a long time to heal.

“We are requesting anyone who has placed a case in court on elections to withdraw it immediately so that we can reconcile,” he said.

The church leader said development and prosperity come when people are united and speak the same language instead of continuously opposing each other.

“The country is facing numerous challenges among them climate change that has caused prolonged dry spells in many counties and economic challenges among others, hence there is a need to work together to build the county. We cannot achieve our goals if we are not united,” Sapit said.

The case challenging the validity of the Narok governor election is set to kick off on Monday while the senatorial case kicked off on Thursday this week.

On Monday, the election petition filed by Kenta was postponed for seven more days to allow parties to get relevant documents before the hearing commenced.

Appearing at the high court in Narok, the petitioners wanted IEBC and Governor Ntutu to supply them with relevant documents.

Kenta's lead lawyer is the Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda while Ntutu is represented by senior counsel Kioko Kilukumi.
