Treasury invites tax proposals on 2023/24 budget

Written and soft copy proposals should be submitted by December 16.

Treasury has invited the public to submit proposals on tax policy measures they want considered during preparation of the 2023/2024 budget.

In a statement on Thursday, CBK Governor Njunguna Ndung'u said the proposals should be submitted in writing and a soft copy by December 16.

"The proposals should echo with the Economic Recovery Strategy and the country's economic blue print Vision 2030," he said.

A soft copy of the submissions should be sent to [email protected].

The proposals can be submitted by government departments and agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and individuals.

Ndung'u encouraged submission of tax proposals that will facilitate achievement of the government objectives in Agriculture, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs) economy, Housing and Settlement, Healthcare, Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy.

"In addition, the proposals may include measures on regulatory reforms, revenue administration reforms, and any other measures that may enhance macroeconomic stability and reposition the economy on an inclusive and sustainable growth trajectory," he added.

The governor said where the proposals will require the law to be amended, submissions should specify the proposed amendment to the tax law and supported by a statement on the issue to be addressed.

He said there must a clear justification for the proposed amendment to the law for the submitted proposal to be considered.

The Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning presents budget estimates before the start of a new financial year on July 1.
