President William Ruto on Tuesday attended the EAC High-Level Consultative meeting on the security situation in Eastern DRC.
The meeting was held in Sharma El-Sheikh, Egypt.
Ruto said the insecurity in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to deny the region an opportunity to engage economically and prosper.
"We have agreed to harmonise our approach and work together with Angola towards ensuring there is peace in DRC," he said.
The Heads of State agreed to appoint a technical advisor from each partner state to support the facilitator of the EAC peace process.
They reaffirmed their commitment to a political solution as the only sustainable path to security in Eastern DRC and underscored the need for inclusivity through the participation of all stakeholders in the political process.
The Heads of State commended the chairperson of the Summit of the EAC Heads of State for convening the consultative meeting in the margins of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change(UNFCCC) COP 27, to assess and deliberate on the security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
The other Heads of State in the meeting were General Neva (Burundi), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Suluhu Samia (Tanzania) and DRC Prime Minister Lukonde Sama.
