A doctor at Kenyatta National Hospital has advised city residents to exercise caution as they run their errands owing to increased cases of stabbing by thugs.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Dr Lilian Munyua said the hospital receives on average of four to seven patients daily stabbed around the city.

"These past two weeks have not been easy at work. I have helplessly watched young and old, men and women, breath their last while trying to save them. Some are in ICU while others have survived but with life long injuries," the doctor said.

She said majority of the stabbing incidents occur on Thika Super Highway at the stretch between Drive-In flyover and KCA University, KCA underpass up to Total Exit and at the Globe roundabout and Kipande Road.

Other areas where patients were stabbed are on Waiyaki Way at ABC Place Kangemi market, Naivas Allsops off Thika Super Highway, the CBD (particularly at Archives), River Road, Fig Tree area in Ngara and KBC offices around the University of Nairobi.

"Please note these killer thugs are stealing in broad daylight. If you resist they will stab or shot you without a second thought. Advice your friends and family to avoid walking alone or getting late in these places," Dr Munyua said.

She particularly singled out people who walk around with laptops in backpacks saying they are prime targets by the murderous gangs and are at the highest risk of being attacked.

"You're on your own, save your loved ones especially now that the December holidays are approaching and the thugs are becoming bolder by the day. Before government comes to save you, save yourself," the doctor said.

Her post came hours after reports emerged that police around the city are on a 'silent go-slow' to protest the arrest of their colleagues linked to various crimes.

Police authorities denied the claims but a number of the law enforcers confirmed that they were 'lazying around' and are not pursuing criminals involved or linked to crime.

They say they "can’t use" their weapons for now and it is upon the public to defend themselves.

Police statistics show up to five violent crimes were reported daily in the past few weeks where in some incidents, victims were trailed and robbed after withdrawing money from banks or atms.
