Ruto to address COP27 climate summit from 4.30 pm

President William Ruto is expected to address the United Nation's annual climate change summit in Egypt.

Ruto's address is set to begin at 4.35 pm and end at 4.55 pm.

He will speak on behalf of Kenya and the African Group present at the conference being held in Sharm El Sheikh.

"President Ruto to deliver statement on behalf the African Group and Kenya at the 27th UN Climate Change conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Time: 1535-1555 hrs (1635-1655 hrs EAT)," State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said.

The head of state left the country for Egypt on Sunday.

His delegation includes Cabinet Secretaries Alfred Mutua (Foreign Affairs), Davis Chirchir (Energy) and Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguri.

120 world leaders as well as 30,000 people are expected to attend the two-week summit in Egypt.

The summit will open with welcome speeches from the UN's new climate change chief, Simon Stiell, and Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister and COP27 President-Designate Sameh Shoukry.

World leaders will speak on Monday and Tuesday, and once they depart, conference delegates will continue with the negotiations.
