- Roads and Transport CS Murkomen in an interview on Wednesday said his ministry was the captain of state capture.
- He said the former government was over-ambitious, committing too many new projects.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said President William Ruto has given directions for an audit to be done on Mombasa port.
Speaking during the official opening of the Mombasa ASK show on Thursday, Rigathi said this will help know what else was mishandled or illegally possessed in the port.
“Ruto has already directed the new CS Kipchumba Murkomen to audit the port facilities and establish what else has been stolen by the lords of impunity, state capture and conflict of interest with a view of restoring the port to the people of Kenya,” he said.
Rigathi said the port is a natural resource and should not be given to selfish individuals.
“The port is for all Kenyans and Ruto's government will secure the port because it belongs to Kenyans and coast residents should be given a chance to benefit from the port,” he said.
Rigathi said the move will revive the economy and he will together with President Ruto visit the place to see how businesses are fairing.
“Ruto administration has thwarted the attempts to steal the port of Mombasa by the lords of impunity, state capture and conflict of interests,” he said.
Murkomen in an interview on Wednesday said his ministry was the captain of state capture.
He said the former government was over-ambitious, committing too many new projects.
“That is very expensive and it’s up to us now to ensure that construction continues in phases. These projects must be completed in 3-4 years,” Murkomen said.
The CS said he was shocked by the discoveries just less than a week after he was sworn in.
“I’m shocked because in my ministry is where the state capture was living. Just discovered there was a contract signed at the port of Mombasa,” he said.
