Council of Governor chairperson Anne Waiguru has taken a centre position in bringing peace to the County Government of Meru.

Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been in the eye of a storm in recent days following a political feud with the Members of the County Assembly.

The leadership tiff has threatened service delivery at the county.

Already, a petitioner has laid grounds upon which he wants the MCAs to impeach the governor.

Salesio Thuranira, a Meru resident, argues Kawira went against the law and claimed some of her appointments had not been subjected to a competitive process and had not received the nod of MCAs.

The legislators have also accused Mwangaza of sidelining them in county development matters.

But Mwangaza has defended herself against the MCAs, accusing them of demanding ward development funds.

As a result, Waiguru who doubles up as Kirinyaga Governor set up a five-member committee which will oversee the ‘peace talks’ between Governor Mwangaza and MCAs.

The committee is chaired by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and has Governor Mutula Kilonzo ( Makueni), Kenneth Lusaka (Bungoma), Cecile Mbarire ( Embu) and Muthoni Njukim( Tharaka Nithi) as its members.

Last Friday, Waiguru together with the committee held separate meetings with Governor Mwangaza and the MCAs.

She later had another sit-down with Mwangaza and the assembly’s leadership, led by Speaker Ayub Bundi in the presence of the Abdulahi-led committee.

The meetings took place on the same day Mwangaza had presented herself before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) where she denied claims of nepotism and corruption.

The anti-graft agency had summoned the Governor to answer to the allegations levelled against her by the ward representatives who also accuse her of being rude and disrespectful.

In an attempt to end the bad blood, Governor Mwangaza has called a consultative meeting of all elected and nominated leaders on Thursday.

In a letter addressed to the leaders, the embattled county boss said the meeting will take place at the governor's official residence.

She has also extended her invitation to Meru County Members of Parliament and Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi.

“As you are aware, Meru County Government has been experiencing some misunderstanding for a while between the Executive and the Honorable County Assembly,” reads the letter.

Causes of misunderstanding between the Governor and MCAs include the Ward Development Fund.

“I am ready to discuss it with the Honourable Members of the County Assembly on its management and come up with a workable solution,” Mwangaza added.
