Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance leaders are now calling for the resignation of DPP Noordin Haji.

In a statement on Tuesday, former Azimio presidential running mate Martha Karua said that public officers who admit to being forced to do things should step down.

"Any public officer, especially a senior, who says I was forced to do, or say reveals themselves to be morally unfit to hold office should resign or be fired," Karua said.

She went on to state that swearing a false affidavit is a crime and that the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions should take action against any DCI officer and any witness who confessed to having perjured themselves.

"Otherwise we are being treated to a charade orchestrated to sanitize the politically correct."

Her remarks followed a revelation by the DDP that he was forced into charging individuals in most of the high-profile cases he has since withdrawn.

Karua added that everyone, including Haji, should take responsibility for their actions in accordance with the law.

She said such cases should also be subjected to the courts of public opinion.

"Why can’t ODPP let the courts of law and the court of public opinion make a determination upon tendering the evidence publicly in all these high-profile matters."

Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, while speaking on Citizen TV also called for the DPP's resignation.

According to him, the public prosecutions office is broken and needs a clean-up of its leadership.

"What is DPP Haji still doing in office and yet he has violated the Constitution and the rights of persons who had no business appearing before the court?" he posed.

Some of the high-profile cases withdrawn by the DPP include The Sh19 million and Sh400 million corruption charges against Public Service and Gender CS Jumwa and former Kenya Power MD Ben Chumo, respectively.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's Sh7.3 billion graft case has also collapsed.
