Assembly clerk Eric Ogenga has said Siaya county assembly Speaker George Okode did not reject Governor James Orengo's submitted list of nominees for the CEC position.

Ogenga noted that the speaker only requested the required missing information.

While reacting to reports in one of the dailies claiming that Okode rejected the list, he explained that On October 26th, the governor submitted the names of the persons nominated to various positions of CEC to the assembly for vetting as required by the law.

He said it was noted that in some cases, there was no material information attached like CBS, academic certificates and Testimonials as required by the law.

"The speaker who chairs the assembly committee responsible for the vetting upon perusal of the document submitted such cases of non-fulfilment of requirements of section 7 of the Public Appointment Act 2017. The information stated and that which was missing was vital for due diligence on the nomination before approval hearing are commenced."

Ogenga noted that in response on October 27th, the speaker sought for the missing information from the appointing authority to enable the appointing committee to commence the due diligence and vetting process.

He said the County Executive on Friday 28th October 2022 through the office of the county secretary acknowledged and provided the missing information and documents about the nominees requested.

"This communication is therefore meant to clarify that the speaker did not reject the submitted list of nominees," he said.

The clerk further noted that the assembly is currently in the process of preparing for the vetting activity as per the guiding laws.

Already a notice to the nominee and the general public on the hearing and vetting of the nominee has been issued with the set dates and time for the exercise.

The process will be undertaken on the 10th and 11th of November 2022 at the county assembly building.

The nominee is also required to collect vetting forms from the office of the clerk during official working hours or download the forms on the assembly website and return them by Tuesday 8th November.
