Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan now says that President William Ruto had a chance to pick professionals for his Cabinet, but he chose political allegiances.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Kamukunji MP said from the president's choice of cabinet secretaries, most are his political allies and they disregard integrity.
"The president had an opportunity to look at the pool of expertise of people in our country, we are over 50 million people. He could have selected many types of competencies, many professional people with training and experience who are needed at this critical moment in our country to be part of the cabinet but he chose not to," Yusuf said on Citizen TV.
"He has chosen political allegiances so that he can have a team that would work with him the way he wants it."
The MP noted that Ruto had done his part as head of state and it was now up to parliament to rise to the occasion.
He said most MPs have resorted to becoming apologists of the executive and support what comes from the president as it is, which is not actually their role.
Yusuf said the role of parliament is to check and balance the Executive.
"It's not the job of parliamentarians to rubber stamp or praise what the president has done."
The MP had appeared on the TV show for a discussion ahead of the expected tabling of the report on Cabinet nominees vetting by the National Assembly Committee on appointments.
Last week, the committee vetted 24 cabinet nominees.
