A man has murdered his three–year–old daughter before ending his own life by suicide in Machakos county.
The body Harrison Mutuku, 32, was found dangling from his bedroom’s roof at Mukalala village in Misakwani, Machakos subcounty on Tuesday.
Machakos subcounty Criminal Investigations Officer, Fredrick Ikal, said investigations have been launched to ascertain the motive behind the heinous act.
"The scene was visited by police officers from Machakos police station who established that one Harrison Mutuku, a Kamba male aged 32 had murdered his three-year–old daughter by stabbing her on the neck,” Ikal told the Star on phone hours after the incident.
He said the matter was reported at around 1pm Tuesday by Misakwani assistant chief.
Area chief Christine Mwelu said she received a report on the incident at around 11.00am Tuesday.
Neighbours believe the father of three may have committed the act Monday night.
The murder-suicide was discovered Tuesday morning by the man's two other children who had spent the night at their grand mother's place.
The children stumbled upon the body of their little sister and that of their father dangling from the roof truss when they went to pick their sister so that they could go to school together.
Mwelu said the man's wife had gone missing after the incident.
"The daughter died on the spot. Mutuku later committed suicide by hanging himself on the roof inside his bedroom using a white sheet,” he said.
Ikal said they were pursuing the man’s wife who was suspected to have fled the scene.
He said two mobile phones (Nokia and Itel model), blood stained knife, bloodstained spoon and sheets were recovered from the scene.
The bodies were moved to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
"Investigations have been launched to establish the cause of that heinous act. No stone will be left unturned to unravel the truth on the incident," Ikal said.
