Ex-journalist Sylvia Mwichuli shortlisted for PS post

She has over 20 years experience in leadership and international policy management.

A former journalist is among 477 individuals shortlisted for consideration as principal secretary appointee.

Sylvia Mwichuli made the cut from a list of 9,154 applicants who showed interest in the positions advertised by the Public Service Commission.

PSC said interviews for PS positions will be held from October 12 to October 22 at the PSC head office in Nairobi.

Mwichuli has over 20 years experience in leadership and international policy management, knowledge management and campaigning for social justice and inclusive development.

She also has extensive experience in communications management, institutional strengthening and resource mobilisation.

Mwichuli currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Relations Society of Kenya.

She is an alumnus of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology from where she graduated with an Executive MBA and Moi University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Education Degree from Moi University.  

Mwichuli started her career as a journalist at the Nation Media Group before being appointed to lead the communication docket at the Kenya Pipeline Company.

Since then, she has worked at various other international organisations in different capacities including at Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, the UN Millennium Campaign, ActionAid, International Centre for Evaluation and Development and the African Medical Research Foundation.

She was the team leader in communications, policy engagement and resource mobilisation at the organisations.

Mwichuli has also led the curation of numerous regional and global conferences including the African Green Revolution Forum, the Kofi Annan’s Kenya National Dialogue conferences and the Agricultural Industry Conference held in Nairobi in March, 2020.

The former scribe has also designed and coordinated implementation of a number of high impact global advocacy campaigns.

These include the globally acclaimed UN Stand Up Take Action Campaign and the Stop Flying Toilets Campaign.
