At least 43 entertainment joints in Nairobi, will be closed down for noise pollution.
Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Board has commenced the revocation of licenses of noisy entertainment joints in accordance with the Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing ACT 2014 Section 21(1) and Section 35(3).
County director of liquor Agwena Hesborn in a statement noted that they have received numerous complaints about the clubs hence the action.
“ The complaints have also been received by the County environment compliance and enforcement officers and despite arrests and arraignment in court, the proprietors have refused to comply and continue to contravene the stipulated licensing conditions, “ he said.
As a result, Agwena instructed the cancellation, revocation and closing down of the 43 premises.
The letter was addressed to all county administrators, sub-county chairpersons and copied to the Nairobi county commissioner, CEC for Trade, Chief officer for security and compliance and Nacada regional manager
The nightclubs are mainly located in Kibra, Roysambu, Lang'ata, Westlands, Roysambu, Dagoretti North, Embakasi West and Kamukunji.
Over the weekend, Police arrested 26 people on Saturday, October 1, after a raid on five entertainment joints for allegedly causing noise pollution and selling banned Shisha in Nairobi's Kilimani area.
The operation was conducted by police on Saturday, in conjunction with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Nairobi County officials, following complaints by residents over noise pollution and obstruction caused by customers frequenting the joints.
All the suspects were taken to Central Police Station and are expected to be arraigned at the City Court on Monday, October 3.
Kilelewshwa MCA Robert Alai had petitioned the Director of Liquor licensing to reign on 15 Entertainment establishments which he said are nuisance through noise pollution, drug peddling and other social vices.
