Tata Chemicals Company has announced a waiver of medical services for the community in Kajiado.

This is due to the current challenges brought about by the drought situation in Magadi.

Children aged five years and below, expectant mothers, newborns, and new mothers (0-6 months of delivery) will benefit, from now until the end of December.

The company’s MD and CEO Subodh Srivastav said the company may consider an extension of the offer depending on the situation on the ground at the end of the year.

“Our support and solidarity will enable them to spare their hard-earned income towards the other needs of the family,”  Srivastav said on Tuesday.

“We have found this necessary to cushion the communities from the medical expenses they need during these hard times at the Tata Chemicals Magadi Hospital.”

He said the company leadership is delighted that they can make a direct contribution to keeping the children, mothers and family healthy through the drought period.

The members of the four group ranches, Srivastav said, are encouraged to comply with the ongoing biometric registration to enjoy these waivers at the hospital.

Magadi Soda Hospital, supported by Tata Chemicals Magadi, is the only hospital within an area of an 80 km radius and has a wide catchment area with a population of about 30,000 people.

The Level 4 Hospital has 55-beds and strives to provide much-needed health care services to both employees and the surrounding community.

Srivastav said the hospital provides subsidised health care to the community and supports other health centres in the area.
