• Gicheru was found dead in his Karen home on Monday night.
• Police said he was found unresponsive at about 7 pm and the cause of death remains unknown.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga has called for lawyer Paul Gicheru's death to be investigated by Interpol to avoid what he terms as a cover up.
Raila says Gicheru's sudden death under mysterious circumstances came at a time he was a suspect at the ICC awaiting judgment over his alleged involvement in witness interference in Kenya's 2007/08 post poll cases.
"This pattern of mysterious and unexplained deaths, some of them gruesome and macabre is extremely disturbing. To avoid a cover up in Kenya, we call upon international investigative agencies, including Interpol to lead the investigation," Raila said.
The statement was released on Wednesday by the spokesman of his campaign secretariat, Makau Mutua.
Gicheru was found dead in his Karen home on Monday night.
Police said he was found unresponsive at about 7 pm. The officers said the cause of his death was yet to be known.
"He had late lunch and felt unwell and went to bed but he did not wake up," police said.
"His son too collapsed and was taken to Karen hospital in stable condition," police added.
Raila said the probe into Gicheru's unexplained death is of sensitive nature because it has international implications by dint of the charges he faced at the International Criminal Court.
"Kenya is a party to the ICC statute and should fully cooperate with the investigation," Raila said.
He expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the late lawyer and said a thorough and credible investigation should uncover the circumstances that led to his death.
