Siaya speaker George Okode has pledged to use his leadership in the house to put governor James Orengo's administration in check.
Speaking on Tuesday after his re-election for a third five-year term, Okode said under his watch, the executive will be checked with decorum and within the law.
"We will stick to our lane and we urge the executive to stick to their lane as well. What the executive wants with us for us we will want for them for them," Okode said in his inaugural speech after being declared winner.
Orengo was elected on August 9 to replace former governor Cornel Rasanga who had served two terms.
Okode observed that in their interactions with the executive, the interests of the people will be the guiding principle.
"Every decision we shall make, we will be asking ourselves, are the people happy?"
Okode dismissed the notion that an effective assembly is measured by the number of impeachment motions it brings against a governor.
"From experience, it doesn't matter how many times you impeach a governor or a CEC or how often you sleep with the executive. It only matters that you have a shared focus for the benefits of the people and respect for the elected leaders together with the executive," he said.
Okode was elected for the third successive time after garnered 38 votes to beat his only challenger, Evans Umidha to clinch the seat.
The seat attracted 12 individuals but three of them failed to return nomination forms to the assembly clerk as required.
Seven others were disqualified after MCAs who had been listed as proposers disowned them saying their signatures had been forged by the contestants.
The house has 26 ODM elected MCAs, one from UDM, one from Federal Party of Kenya and one Independent. It also have 11 nominated members.
Okode thanked the MCAs for voting for him saying the county was blessed to have an executive led by an individual who is well versed in legislation and parliamentary operations.
"We expect that this will be used to synergise our relationship with the executive," he said.
" We will be looking at them eye to eye, face to face to make sure the people of Siaya are happy," he said.
