Ruto congratulates Kenyan students for winning Sh120m in US

President William Ruto has congratulated a group of Kenyan university students dubbed Eco-Bana Limited for winning the global finals of the 2022 Hult Prize held in New York on Tuesday.

The group was awarded one million dollars (Sh 120 million) for the innovation.

Ruto celebrated the group saying the innovation is a hustler's spirit that he is keen to support.

"Congratulations to Eco-Bana, a Kenyan social venture started by four university students, that has just won the prestigious Hult Prize and a cash award of 1 million dollars," Ruto said.

"The prize is awarded to entrepreneurs who strive to tackle pressing global issues through innovation. The firm makes hygienic sanitary pads from banana fibres. This is the Hustler Spirit that we are keen to support." 

The four students from St Paul's University competed in the global finals as Eco Bana Limited.

They include Lennox Omondi, Keylie Muthoni, Dulla Shiltone and Brian Ndung'u.

They emerged top beating five other teams.

Their company makes biodegradable sanitary pads by using banana fibre.

It also helps to stop the manufacturing of plastics to protect the environment.
