ODM congratulates Mwambire, Omulele for winning county Speaker seats

Raila Odinga led party ODM has congratulated Teddy Mwambire and Chris Omulele for being elected as County Assembly Speakers.

Mwambire, who is the former Ganze MP was elected, Kilifi County speaker while his Luanda counterpart Omulele landed the Vihiga County Assembly Speaker position.

"We wish congratulate our immediate former members of the ODM PG Teddy Mwambire (formerly Ganze) and Chris Omulele (Luanda) on their election as Speakers of the County Assemblies of Kilifi and Vihiga respectively. We are proud of you," the party tweeted on Wednesday.

The current ODM chairman in Kilifi garnered 37 out of 51 votes during the Tuesday's election.

He was deputised by Jubilee's Naftali Nyae Kombo of Ruruma Ward.

Mwambire served as the Deputy Speaker in the County Assembly under his predecessor Jimmy Kahindi, from 2013 to 2017.

He then went on to become Ganze MP from 2017 to 2022.

Speaking after being officially sworn in, Mwambire said he was going to hold an induction for the MCAs to help them effect their mandate.

"We want to make sure that devolution works effectively. For the last 10 years you have not seen even the so-called village administrators in the county of Kilifi. This is the time I will be so close to the governor to ensure we lay the foundation from the grassroots," he said.

Omulele vied for the Vihiga Speaker seat after losing his Luanda parliamentary seat.

He was competing for the position against Castro Lubanga, who also lost the elections for Hamisi MP seat.
