No member of the opposition will be appointed in the Kenya Kwanza administration, President William Ruto has said.

The head of state said on Friday that his administration has welcomed opposition leaders' assertion that they will oversight his government.

"I'm happy to note that our competitors have said they will provide oversight over our government.

"We have accepted that we are not going to appoint any member of the opposition into government because we want a vibrant opposition, an apposition that will keep the government in check," Ruto said.

The President was speaking on Friday during the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary retreat in Naivasha, Nakuru county.

The retreat was meant for Kenya Kwanza legislators to agree on modalities of running government affairs in Parliament.

"So I want to tell our good friends on the other side of the divide, you are welcome. We believe that the efficiency of any government depends on how much we are kept on our toes," Ruto said.

His remarks may, however, conflict with what the opposition has termed as a deliberate move by Ruto to subvert democracy by wooing opposition legislators to Kenya Kwanza.

A number of opposition MPs including those elected on Independent tickets have joined Ruto's camp.

The President, meanwhile, mocked the opposition over their claims that they have sufficient numbers to oversight the government on the floor of the House.

"I have heard them try to say they have some numbers, I mean surely, if you cannot even raise a candidate for the speaker of senate, what numbers do you have?" Ruto asked.
