President William Ruto has begun his official duties in earnest appointing six judges who had earlier been rejected by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Through an executive order, Ruto appointed judges Korir Weldon Kipyegon, Muchelule Aggrey Otsyula, Odunga George Vincent and Joel Mwaura Ngugi.

He has also appointed two other judges of the Environment and Land Court.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166(1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, I William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint Makori Evans Kiago and Cheruiyot Omange Judith Elizabeth to be judges of the Environment and Land Court," read the Notice.

The six judges will now be sworn in on Wednesday.

The president executed the order moments after his swearing in.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua witnessed the signing of the order.

"To demonstrate my commitment to the independence of the judiciary, this afternoon, I will appoint the 6 judges already nominated for appointment to the court of appeal which was done 3 years ago by the Judicial Service Commission," Ruto said in his speech at Kasarani.

The six are among the 34 who had been left out.

Ruto had also during a past interview made the commitment saying he was going to swear in the six "on day one".
