President-elect William Ruto on Monday met with outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta and State House, Nairobi.

Ruto was accompanied by First Lady-elect Rachel Ruto.

Reports said they were making a personal hand over ahead of Ruto's inauguration on Tuesday at Kasarani Stadium.

The two leaders were expected to address the nation in a joint press conference but only Uhuru delivered his farewell speech after the private meeting which started moments after 3pm.

For the first time since Ruto's election, Uhuru congratulated Ruto.

Monday's meeting was seen as a ice-breaker session for ease of power handover during Ruto's swearing in ceremony as the country's fifth President.

The meeting was the first time Uhuru and Ruto were meeting in months.

While delivering his speech shortly after the Supreme Court's verdict on September 5, Ruto revealed that he had not spoken to his former political soulmate for months.

The two leaders have had a frosty relationship for months since their fall out over succession politics.

Uhuru endorsed Azimio leader Raila Odinga who Ruto defeated at the August 9 general election.

Raila disputed the results and moved to court but the Supreme Court unanimously upheld Ruto's win of over 7.1 million votes against Raila's 6.9 million votes.
