The higher you build your barriers, the taller I become.

These are the opening lyrics to Kenny Rogers' 1989 hit single 'Something Inside So Strong'.

But the American singer-songwriter who died in March 2020 seldom knew the words in that song would someday inspire confidence in a Kenyan politician smarting from the loss of a hotly contested election.

On Tuesday, Azimio running mate Martha Karua tweeted the lyrics of the song's chorus, seemingly, to express her undented spirit to pursue her political ambition.

"Something inside so strong I know that I can make it, though you're doing me wrong so wrong, You thought that my pride was gone, oh no There's something inside so strong, Something inside so strong….."

Karua and her boss Raila Odinga on Monday suffered a blow after the Supreme Court dismissed their petition that challenged the election of William Ruto as President-elect.

A seven-judge bench of the apex court said in a unanimous verdict that the issues raised by the duo and six other petitioners were baseless, a fabrication, hot air, sensational and insufficient to set aside an election.

Raila and Karua released statements separately saying they respect the court's decision although they disagree with it.

"The court has spoken. I respect but disagree with the findings," Karua said in a tweet.

"We find it incredible that the judges found against us on all the nine grounds and occasion resulted to unduly exaggerated language to refute our claims," Raila said, adding that the judgment is by no means the end of their movement to transform Kenya into a prosperous country.
