Tanzanian President Suluhu congratulates Ruto on his win

Says she looks forward to working with him to strengthen the historic bond between the two nations

Tanzanian President Suluhu Hassan has congratulated President-elect William Ruto whose win was upheld by the Supreme Court on Monday.

“I would like to congratulate my brother @WilliamsRuto on the decision by the Supreme Court of Kenya to uphold his election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya,” Suluhu said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I look forward to working with you to strengthen the historic bond and cooperation between our two nations.”

President Suluhu is the second in the East African region to congratulate the President-elect after Uganda's Yoweri Museveni.

"I look forward to working with him to strengthen our Strategic Partnership in advancing the EAC agenda," he said.

Foreign leaders who have congratulated Ruto include Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, his Siera Leonean counterpart Julius Maada and UK High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott. 

Others are Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the Germany and Netherlands embassies in Nairobi.

The African Union Commission chairperson, Moussa Faki has also congratulated Ruto.
